Listening - An Overview

Clarity is not a point of view. It is a function of our listening, our commitment to see things as they are, and our willingness to engage with possibilities.

Listening through dualistic concepts

Before you are even aware you are judging the ideas thrown in front of you with. One could say you are listening with an endless list of dualistic concepts. This is trapped, dualistic, reductionist thinking.

Right OR Wrong
True OR False
Good OR Bad
Should OR  Shouldn't
Agree OR Disagree

Create Space for Yin-yang thinking/being - For holding both sides of an opposing question simultaneously. If 4E Cogntive scientists are right and our Cogntion is indeed enacted and embodied then we are need a find way to hold these two sides not just in our heads but in our listening and ultimately our Being.

Network thinking by contrast is Emergent Thinking.

Always & automatic

As you listen, you are” always already” automatically interpreting – using the only criteria you have – that of the frameworks you already have or the learning you have accumulated from your past. Being “past-derived” it is all essentially reaction.

What to do about it?

We aim to break this chain of “reaction” and begin to create more and more space within which to choose and create This is what it means to Step into Freedom. This is the job of the Integrative Network Designer to design for Emergence – for creation, for innovation for inside-out network path design.

Be A Listening.

The character for Listening includes King, Ear, Eye, Heart and Intention. We recommend practing simple listening as a form of Mindfulness. Listen to yourself. Listen to your always already listening. Listen to your Right/Wrong, Agree/Disagree. Listen to your Storybox.   Then start to get Conscious about shaping and orchestrating your own environment from your relationship to yourself to what is of utmost importance. Notice that listening includes Intention. Remember there is no sensing independent of Purpose. See writing on There is No Sensing Independent of Purpose). It includes how you Relate to the World.
